The pillow you select for yourself can impact the quantity and quality of sleep you get. Your bed should be well-outfitted with quality pillows and mattresses for that specific time period. Insufficient support can stop you from getting a good night’s sleep. It is necessary to feel refreshed to start your day.

A high-quality pillow must support the curl of your neck while being comfortable to lay your head on. A pillow that’s too thin or thick can cause you to wake up with an aching neck and in some cases, causes headaches. Every individual’s needs are different. The size should suit your body structure. Pillows are available in various sizes, so select one which suits your needs best. People with narrower shoulders will need a narrower pillow than people with a broader frame.

Your pillow selection should depend on whether you sleep on your stomach, side or back. You can determine this yourself by paying attention to how you go to sleep and how you wake. Your pillow should help your spine stay in a neutral position. Your hips, back and neck should be aligned.

  1. Stomach Sleepers– The pillow must be even and soft. Although this isn’t a good position for your back and neck, it can prove to be harmful to your spine. Stomach sleepers usually have a reduced spinal curve and may be the main contributor for your back and neck aches. Take advice from your doctor to get rid of his habit.
  2. Side Sleepers – The pillow, in this case, must be slightly firmer. The thickness can be determined by how broad your shoulders are. The centre of your neck and nose should form a perfect line. Your neck and head should be supported completely on your pillow. If you need to place your arm to further support your head, it clearly indicates your pillow’s too slim. Sleeping in this position is terrible for blood circulation, and it might even leave your hand without sensation.
  3. Back Sleeper – The best way is to select a pillow for this sleeping position is to pick one which is medium in size. A pillow with a slight curve can be helpful for those who sleep this way. Any pillow which is too slim will make your head lean back further than is required. A thicker pillow will push your head forward. Both can result in back and neck pain.

It’s a good idea to try the pillow out before purchasing it. Stores usually have a plastic wrap on them so they can be placed on a bed set at the store display and tried. Your neck area should be supported no matter how you sleep. Pillows which are too thin or thick can cause harm to your neck and back.

A supportive pillow of superior quality will provide many benefits. It will reduce headaches and neck pain. Although finding the correct one might take a while, it’s necessary to change it when it loses the quality of support it provides. Your body, in turn, will be grateful to you.
